Meet Kelly

A librarian by day, I grew up in four states (Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Meet Kelly
Carolina and Illinois) which most likely influenced my interest in traveling as an adult. I first left the United States to study abroad in Hong Kong when I was 19 and quickly caught the travel bug.  After finishing my Bachelor’s in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, I traveled alone through Europe for two and a half months. I learned a lot about myself and how to travel during this time. I then promptly moved to Japan for three years. While living in Japan I traveled throughout Japan, Asia and Australia, plus a brief two week trip to France and Switzerland.

After Japan, I wasn’t quite ready to move back to the US, so I moved to Canada to earn a Bachelor of Education at York University. After promptly deciding I didn’t want to be a teacher full-time, I moved back to Illinois for a Master of Library and Information Science. I then moved to Chicago to work as a corporate librarian for almost three years. During this time I took at least one international trip each year and also did two road trips out west. After deciding the corporate world wasn’t for me, I quit my job, stored most of my belongings in storage, and traveled / moved around the US and Europe for 10 months. Now, I’m working as an academic librarian in Illinois and planning my next trip(s).
